1/10/2023-According to reports published on social and state media, a 16-year-old girl went unconscious and fell into a coma due to the injuries she suffered as a result of being shoved by the guidance patrol agents in a Tehran metro train. This high school student, named Armita Geravand, was attacked on Sunday, October 1, 2023, while she was boarding the subway train to go to school with her friends at Tehran’s Shohada metro station.
Armita Geravand was then transferred by ambulance to the Fajr Hospital in Tehran. Her friends who took her to the hospital were under arrest for three days. The hospital, affiliated with the Air Force, is surrounded by security forces until now and even Armita’s parents are not being allowed to visit her. And in fact Armita’s mother was violently arrested this week on Wednesday 4th October whilst at the hospital. The day before, On October 3rd Armita’s parents were interviewed by Iran’s state TV channel, saying she had fainted due to a drop in her blood pressure. The interview was carried out in the hospital under the heavy presence of security officials. Also an unknown woman, identified as “a relative,” was interviewed by the TV saying that the guidance patrol attack on the young woman was a rumour disseminated by enemies of the state. Social media users question the woman’s identity and say she was most probably a government agent.
Maryam Lotfi, a reporter from Sharq Daily, who went to the Fajr Hospital at noon on Monday, October 2, 2023, to prepare a report on the situation of Armita Geravand, was also arrested. She was released after a few hours. Medical reports say Armita has suffered a brain hemorrhage due to a blow to her head. Her chances of survival are unfortunately low. She is a lover of art and her art work has made rounds across social media pages in the recent days, and is also reportedly a black belt in taekwondo.
All indications point to the fact that the clerical regime is on full alert, trying to prevent the repetition of the events that led to the 2022 nationwide uprising. An event that unrooted the clerical regime’s mirage of stability and soundness.
