A young woman by the name of Sahar Khodayari set herself on fire outside one of the branches of the Ministry of Justice in Tehran. This came after she was denied entry into a football stadium to watch a match. The young woman had been arrested in March for attempting to enter Azadi Stadium. A judiciary official said she was charged with “insulting the public by defying the dress code for women,” and “insulting the law enforcement agents.”
Thousands of Anglo-Iranians March for Democracy and Freedom in Iran
On Saturday 31st July thousands of the Anglo-Iranian diaspora marched in London in support of the people's uprisings in Iran. This protest was the final in a series of 6 worldwide protests showing solidarity with the Iranian people and their nationwide protests in Iran.
Prominent politicians such as Matthew Offord MP, chairman of the British Committee for Iran Freedom; Struan Stevenson, coordinator of the Campaign for Iran Change; Senator Catherine Noone, Deputy Leader of the Irish Senate; Senator Gerry Horkan of Ireland; Roger Godsiff MP; Paulo Casaca, former MEP; Brian Binley, former MP; Roger Lyons, former President of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in the United Kingdom and Denise Lester from The Law Society of England and Wales.
Anglo-Iranian Communities Celebrate International Women's Day in London
This rally, organised by the AWYAF, was joined by many Anglo Iranian groups and associations from across the UK in order to celebrate the role of brave women in the recent Iran uprisings.
It was also to condemn the treatment of women inside Iran for their prominent roles in protests, strikes. There have been a number of arrests and attacks on women since the uprisings began in December of 2017. they have been arrested, imprisoned and attacked on the streets for their peaceful protests against the compulsory veil.
Iran: Regime Refuses to Pass Bill of Protection of Women
The PSW bill, Provision of Security for Women against violence, needs to be fundamentally revised otherwise it cannot be reformed. These are the remarks made by Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Eje’ii, first deputy minister and spokesman of the mullahs’ Judiciary Branch.
In response to a question on differences of opinion on this bill, Eje’ii said, “The PSW bill contained numerous problems so much that it could not be reformed. The solution is to draft a totally different bill or to reform the existing bill only in collaboration with the government.” (The official IRNA news agency – February 17, 2019)
Call To Release Detained Steel Workers in Iran
Members of the Anglo-Iranian communities gathered in front of Downing Street, London, in a bid to urge the Prime Minister to place pressure on the Iranian regime to release the detained steelworkers in Iran. The workers have entered their seventh week of strikes and protests in the country's southern Khuzestan province.
They called for better changes to their working conditions as well as the payment of wages previously unpaid for the last 6 months.
