4th November 2022 - People in Iran have used the 40-day memorials of those killed in protests, as an opportunity to gather in large numbers and stage protests against the regime.
15th October 2022 - At 9:50 PM Tehran Time, a huge explosion was heard which shook the windows of surrounding buildings. Some prisoners could be seen and heard on the roof of the Prison with chants of “death to the dictator, death to Khamenei.”.
According to reports from the scene, people from different parts of Tehran rushed to the Evin Prison to protest and prevent more security forces from raiding the jail and slaughtering prisoners. Security forces have been dispatched to disperse the crowd.
Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the UN gave a statement on the violent crackdown of protests in Iran. The statement read: “We are increasingly concerned about reports of rising fatalities, including women and children, related to the protests. The Secretary-General calls on the security forces to refrain from using unnecessary or disproportionate force and appeals to all to exercise utmost restraint to avoid further escalation. We underline the need for prompt, impartial and effective investigation into Ms. Mahsa Amini’s death by an independent competent authority.
26 September 2022 - A new wave of national protests has erupted across Iran following the death of a Kurdish Iranian women by the name of Mahsa Amini (22) while she was in the custody of the so-called 'morality police.' On 13th September, Mahsa was arrested in the streets of Tehran because of not wearing her headscarf in accordance with the regime's strict hijab laws.
She was violently shoved into the police van and transferred to Vozara detention centre in Tehran. Within a few hours, police dropped her off at Kasra hospital, having fallen into a coma due to her injuries. With doctors not holding out hope for her survival, Mahsa died 3 days later on 16th September 2022.
